Translation and Chāyā
The text pane toolbar switches between three readings of the edition. Transliteration is the linked, syllable-by-syllable text; the other two are continuous prose.
Translation
The edition's running translation, as a single body of text.
Chaya
The chāyā — the Sanskrit or Middle Indic rendering the editor supplies alongside the Gāndhārī.
What changes when you switch
Both are prose, not annotations, so the linking that drives the rest of the Viewer does not apply here:
- Nothing in the text is clickable, and nothing highlights on the image.
- The current selection is cleared.
- The Details pane collapses, and stays collapsed until you return to Transliteration.
- The image pane is untouched — it keeps its canvas, zoom, and position.
A mode with no content for this edition simply shows an empty pane.
Aligned instead of continuous
For translation or chāyā aligned to the text unit by unit rather than run together, stay in Transliteration and turn on Structure, then Translation or Chaya, in the transliteration settings. See Reading the Transliteration.
Both also appear as their own sections in the edition report, which is the easiest way to read or print the translation end to end.
